Burkholder Construction is owned and operated by John Burkholder. John Burkholder was born and raised in Old Order Amish communities in Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. He began his woodworking/carpentry carreer in 1990. He moved to the La Plata, Missouri in 1991. After working for other contractors for a few years, he started his own business, building custom furniture and cabinetry. After a few years of custom woodworking, began doing some remodeling for a customer who had just commissioned him to build a set of kitchen cabinets. He began to slowly phase out his woodworking business and eventually was in full time remodeling with an emphasis on siding and roofing. He had up to 8 employees during the late 1990's. During this time, he grew tired of all the logistics of running his own business.
He let all his employees go and began working for a logger which he did for about 2 years. It was during this time that John and his family left the Old Order Amish religion. About six months later he was hired by Schwan's Home Service, Inc. as a route manager. He held this position for 2 years. Because he did not have much home time with his family which growing up fast, he decided to go back into business for himself. Burkholder Construction resumed business in the summer of 2002. Since then they have had many satisfied customers. Even though he no longer attends an Amish Church, he is a born-again Christian who is very active in his church. He still believes in the work ethics and and quality craftsmanship he learned while growing up Amish.
